The City of Solon is proud to announce a new Automated Recycling Program!
The City of Solon will roll out the new automated recycling program to all residents city wide beginning the week of September 2, 2014! Your household will be provided a wheeled cart container that will hold all your recyclables including paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, metal & aluminum cans. This cart is similar to your rubbish cart and smaller. From this point forward, it will no longer be necessary to put recyclables in clear plastic bags. ALL acceptable recyclables can be put loosely in your new recycling cart.
As with your automated rubbish cart, this container can be easily wheeled to the curb for collection. An automated collection truck will provide weekly pick up. The recyclables will then be taken to a recycling processing facility.
The City of Solon encourages residents to RECYCLE! As a community, if we recycle more, less money will be spent on solid waste tipping fees as well as environmental fees associated with regular trash disposal. Not only is this better for the environment but it helps our community save valuable tax dollars. The ultimate goal is to make it as easy as possible for all residents to recycle while at the same time lowering the city’s operational costs significantly. Our projected savings are expected to be approximately $85,000 per year by using automated recycling! We want to lower costs and still provide our residents excellent services.
