Honor Guard at Dedication for Firefighter's Memorial
The Solon Fire Rescue Honor Guard was formed in 2008 with 10 members. These dedicated men and women volunteered their time to learn and practice the precision and protocols and evolved into a highly polished unit.
The mission of the Honor Guard is to honor, remember and celebrate active, retired and fallen Solon Fire Rescue members. In addition, the Solon Honor Guard is proud to offer services to Firefighters from across the state and nation. The unit has participated in events ranging from memorial services to parades, opening ceremonies at a Cleveland Indians game, presented the colors at a Monster Truck Show and assisted at the opening of the new Solon Post Office.
The Honor Guard has a high profile role in the public relations efforts of the Solon Fire Department. The diversity we proudly celebrate in our department is reflected in the ranks of the Honor Guard.
Paramedic/Firefighter (PM/FF) Joseph Verner commands the unit. Other members include: Lt./PM Matt Eshleman, Lt./PM Mike Sager, Lt./PM Jason Schilkowski, PM/FF Gabe Atchison , PM/FF Jake Fried, PM/FF Tom Green, PM/FF Neil Kaptein, PM/FF Dave Latarski, Lt./PM Amanda Horvath and Lt./PM Shawn Toth.
Honor Guard members are all Firefighters who volunteer their time and financial support. Although we have some financial backing, there are many equipment and clothing items that are not covered. Financial donations not only assist us in acquiring additional needed items, but also help defray the out-of-pocket expenditures of our members. Donations may be sent to Firefighters Local #2079, P.O. Box #39654, Solon, Ohio 44139.
