Open Burning
Burning trash, brush, or leaves is not permitted in the City of Solon. Small, attended campfires for cooking purposes are permitted during favorable weather conditions without prior approval. Small fires used to thaw construction material in cold weather conditions are also allowed. Bonfires require prior approval by the Fire Prevention Bureau.
Parking Commercial Vehicle
No more than one commercial vehicle, not to exceed three-fourths of a ton in rated capacity, may be parked on a residential property. Commercial vehicles must be housed overnight and used only as a means of transportation to the resident. No motor vehicles may be parked in a landscaped front or side yard.
Sidewalks and Driveways
All sidewalks and driveways within the public right of way shall be kept in a proper state of repair. If they pose a possible danger to public health and safety, they shall be repaired or replaced. The owner, occupant, or other persons having charge, management or possession of any building or premises shall keep the sidewalk(s) free from snow, ice, slush, dirt, mud, or any other foreign substance. All sidewalk(s) shall be kept in a clean condition at all times.
Grass and Weed Control
Lawns and landscaping should be maintained so as not to cause a negative or deteriorating effect on the surrounding neighborhood. Generally, grass in residential neighborhoods must be controlled in height and growth.
Weeds that are capable of causing skin reactions and respiratory problems, such as goldenrod, ragweed, thistle, etc., are not permitted to grow on any premises. No owner or occupant of any premises shall permit vegetation to obscure or restrict vision along a public street or at any intersection, so as to create a safety hazard. At a corner lot, no fence or vegetation should be higher than three feet so as to not obstruct the view of oncoming traffic for 18 feet at the intersection.
Property owners with excessively high grass or weeds will be given five days written notice to cut or destroy the high grass or weeds. If there is not compliance, the property owner will be cited. Questions should be directed to the Zoning Inspector by calling
