The City of Solon is currently in the process of updating the City's Master Plan. A Master Plan is a comprehensive policy document that informs future land use decisions. It establishes land use designations and policies that identify a range of zoning options that can be applied to property. These policies assist decision makers as they review planning approvals for a new project or consider a proposed ordinance or policy.
By identifying land use categories and corresponding zones, the Master Plan provides the foundational guide for planning, outlining how land is used and how the City allocates its resources. The Master Plan is, however, more than just the legal basis for all local land use decisions; it is the vision for how the City will evolve, reflecting the values and priorities of our communities.
The Master Plan Citizen’s Committee is an advisory body intended to represent a broad cross section of community attitudes regarding the present and desired future physical environment of the community. Through their input the Master Plan Citizen’s Committee shall be responsible for assisting the Director of Planning and Community Development in formulating the Goals of the Master Plan.
The committee members consist of 27 members: 1 resident from each ward appointed by the ward’s city council representative, Planning Commission members (excluding the Mayor), the Director of Planning & Community Development, and 15 at-large residents and/or stakeholders appointed by the Mayor. View all members of the Master Plan Citizen's Committee.
Committee meetings are biweekly on Thursdays (April 21, May 5, May 19, June 2, June 16, June 30, and July 14) at 6:00pm at the Community Center.
