Active Adults & Senior Services

The Department of Senior Services strives to enrich, assist and engage the lives of older adults in order to maintain and enhance their dignity and strength, both as individuals and groups, and to provide services that foster independence for adults 60 years of age and over or who have physical limitations that affect movement. In order to accomplish this mission, the Department provides a wide array of programs and supportive services.

The Solon Senior Center

The Solon Senior Center (SSC) serves as the nucleus for health, fitness, socialization and life-long learning programming, as well as the administration of supportive services. The staff includes a director, administrative coordinator, social worker, activity coordinators, instructors, activity assistant, van drivers and a host of senior volunteers.

The SSC is a vibrant multi-service facility for older adults over the age of 60 and offers a wide array of activities, group fitness, as well as community living supportive services to assist Solon residents in remaining active and engaged members of the community.

The SSC is attached to the Solon Community Center and located in a park like setting.  The campus of the 2 facilities includes attractive meeting spaces, exercise space & equipment, indoor & outdoor pools, gym, outdoor recreation courts, walking path, and a grille.

There is no charge for membership to the Solon Senior Center for Solon residents.  Membership to the Solon Senior Center is open to non-residents for $40 per calendar year.  Older adults with qualifying health and fitness memberships, such as Silver Sneakers®, Silver & Fit®, and Renew Active, are able to participate in group fitness classes at no charge, and do not require a SSC membership!

It is known that many people move to Solon for their young children. After a visit to the Solon Senior Center and a review of the enrichment activities for active adults, as well as a review of the supportive services offered, you will understand why so many older adults stay in Solon. For those who relocate to Solon on their own, or because of their adult children, a warm welcome filled with activity awaits everyone’s arrival!
