Without the intimidating shield of the police cruiser, people in general find approaching the bike officers to be a more casual and personable interaction.

The Bicycle Patrol can be seen on duty for special events such as July 4th Fireworks, Home Days and Halloween. They have consistent interaction with Solon children through the Safety Town program and various sponsored bike hikes.

Bicycle Safety Rodeos

The Bicycle Patrol, in conjunction with the Solon Recreation Department, hosts bicycle safety rodeos throughout the summer. These rodeos provide youngsters an opportunity to show off their riding skills, brush up on safety rules, and have their bicycle equipment checked by trained bicycle mechanics for safety and functionality. Numerous prizes including new bicycles have been awarded at these functions.

Bicycle officers collect and maintain bicycle registration information to assist owners of lost or stolen bicycles.

Certification
All Solon Police Bicycle Officers are certified Public Safety Cyclist by the International Police Mountain Bike Association. Ip.m.BA is the premiere public safety cyclist organization which offers specialized mountain bike training in a law enforcement environment.
