FIRE DEPARTMENT
PARAMEDIC/FIREFIGHTER
The City of Solon Civil Service Commission will hold an exam for Paramedic/Firefighter on Tuesday,
October 9, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Solon Community Center. Applications will be accepted at Solon City Hall beginning Monday, September 10, 2018, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The Civil Service Commission will accept applications until 4:00 PM Wednesday, September 26th. There is a $25 non-refundable fee to be paid at the time of filing applications. Applications can be downloaded from the City of Solon website https://solonohio.org/documentcenter/view/3318. No applications will be mailed to interested applicants. Applications received by mail will not be accepted. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE NOTARIZED. All applications received are subject to the public record laws for the State of Ohio.
Those applicants who desire additional credits for the areas below will be required to submit proof of eligibility as follows at the time of filing your application. However, additional credits will only be applied to those who achieve a passing grade of 70% or higher on the exam.
Military Service – 10% credit with copy of honorable discharge
College Education – 2% credit with copy of Associate’s Degree or 4% credit with copy of Bachelor’s Degree (cannot receive 6% for both)
All applicants must attain the age of twenty-one (21) on or before the date of the examination and are required to be a State of Ohio certified paramedic on the date of hire. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and in good mental and physical health, have achieved a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and have a valid driver’s license. A copy of your valid State of Ohio driver’s license must be provided at the time of filing your application.
All applicants will be required to provide, by date of hire, a valid certificate of completion of the Firefighter’s Physical Agility Test administered by Cuyahoga Community College as established by the Northeastern Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association.
