[ARCHIVED] Paving Update: SOM Resurfacing Project and SOM/Aurora Intersection Improvements Project

Currently Chagrin Valley Paving is working on casting adjustments throughout the project limits.  After the casting adjustments are complete, Chagrin Valley Paving crews will replace catch basins in five locations on SOM Center between Bainbridge Road and Solon Road and replace the concrete island under the railroad bridge. Two catch basins are on the west side of SOM Center Road and three catch basins are on the east side. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in both north and southbound directions from State Route 422 to the Railroad Bridge for ten to fourteen days.

After all of the concrete and catch basin replacement is completed, the finished surface course of asphalt will be installed.  During the installation of the top coat of asphalt, there will be traffic restrictions until the final lane striping is applied.

SOM Aurora Intersection Improvements Project, Paving limits are on SOM Center from Linden north to the Railroad Bridge, on Aurora Road from 200 feet east of the "Burger King" traffic light west to SOM Center Road, and at the Aurora Road Solon Blvd. intersection.

Currently, CATTS Construction is finalizing casting adjustments, concrete curb replacement, and catch basin adjustments in preparation for asphalt paving of the finished surface course on Saturday, October 19, 2019. CATTS subcontractors: Thompson Electric, Ronyak Paving, and ARL striping are scheduled to start traffic signal changes at 2:00AM Saturday morning. Paving operations will start at 8:00 AM depending on the temperature and will end about 5:00 PM Saturday evening. Final striping will take place after the paving is completed Saturday evening. Due to the amount of equipment and manpower needed to execute the paving operations in one day, the intersection of SOM Center Road and Aurora Road will be closed to through traffic.  The contractor will allow customer access to the businesses; however, vehicles will not be able to cross through the SOM Center Road & Aurora Road intersection.  Most of the businesses have access from both SOM Center Road and Aurora Road.  The final course of asphalt will be paved at the Aurora Road & Solon Blvd. intersection also.

Please follow the posted detours on the attached map around the asphalt-paving zones to avoid long delays at the SOM Center Road & Aurora Road intersection and the Aurora Road & Solon Blvd. intersection.  Once the paving is completed, the SOM Center Road & Aurora Road intersection will be striped with the new lane configurations.

The reason this paving plan is being completed on Saturday, closing the intersection to through traffic, is due to the temperature requirements of the asphalt, the additional equipment needed to accomplish the pave of the whole area in one day, for the safety of the construction workers, and for the safety of the motoring public driving through the construction zone.  The City of Solon thanks you in advance for your patience throughout this very complex project.
