Solon Community Band to Perform 

Free Outdoor Concert June 17

 

Solon Center for the Arts and Solon Recreation Department will present a free outdoor concert featuring Solon Community Band on Friday, June 17. The band will perform an assortment of American music favorites beginning at 7 p.m. at Bicentennial Park, 34025 Bainbridge Road, Solon.  

Musical selections include numbers from John Williams, John Philip Sousa, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Pierre LaPlante. 

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Gourmet ice cream on a stick and other hand-crafted desserts will be available for purchase from Pop Culture CLE’s Mobile Sweet Spot truck. If it rains, the concert will move into the theater at Solon Center for the Arts, 6315 SOM Center Road. 

Solon Community Band is directed by Laura Joss, veteran collegiate music educator and currently Chair of Performing Arts and Band and Orchestra Director at Old Trail School in Bath, Ohio. Solon Community Band partners with patrons and audiences through enriching and joyous musical contributions to the community. In addition to the June 17 concert, the band will perform before Solon’s fireworks display on Friday, July 1, and at Solon Home Days on Sunday, July 31.

Solon Community Band was founded in 2015. About 45 members, ranging in age from teens to 80s, represent music teachers, engineers, human resource professionals, students, retirees and more. New players are always welcome; contact Laura Joss at soloncommunitybandohio@gmail.com for more information.
