The Solon Police Department continues its public outreach efforts with the creation of a citizens academy. The academy is free to Solon residents and business owners and managers. The nine-week program will teach residents what it's like to be a police officer. Upon completion, participants will be able to accompany an officer on an evening ride along. Graduates may also join a new community impact advisory board that will provide input on police decisions to Chief Chris Viland and the city. Applicants must be 18 years old by March 1st and must pass a background check. To apply, contact Sgt. Steve Galaska at 440-337-1478.
